This Privacy Policy discloses the privacy practices of the Eppley Institute, a unit of Indiana University’s Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies. To better protect your privacy, we provide this notice explaining our information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used by the Eppley Institute. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to the Eppley Institute include eppley.org and eppleyinstitute.org.

1. The Information We Collect

The information we gather falls into two categories:

  1. Personally Identifiable Information
  2. Aggregate Information Collected Through the Technology

1.1 Personally Identifiable Information

This is personal information you voluntarily supply when you contact us, order from our site, complete a survey, register online for a class, or provide us your e-mail address.

1.1.1 Registration On Our Website

The Eppley Institute training site requires you to register only if you choose to take a course. Registration requires that you supply your name, address, country, telephone number, date of birth, and a unique e-mail address. Company information and fax number are optional.

To allow for course fees, we collect and store billing and credit card information. This information will only be shared with third parties who perform tasks required to complete the purchase transaction, such as fulfilling orders and processing credit card payments.

1.1.2 Reader Surveys, Reader Panels, And Market Research

The Eppley Institute may collect personal information from course participants in connection with voluntary surveys. Data may be collected on our website, on the phone, or through the mail. The information you provide to answer optional survey questions may be shared, but only in the aggregate, with partners unless we notify you otherwise at the time of collection.

All survey data is reported and/or used in aggregate form only, and no personally identifiable information will be released.

1.2 Aggregate Information Collected Through The Technology

This is typically considered tracking information collected as you navigate through our site.

1.2.1 Cookies And Other Technologies

As is standard practice on many websites, The Eppley Institute uses “cookies” and other technologies to recognize you and provide personalization, as well as to help us understand which parts of our web site are the most popular, where our visitors are going, and how much time they spend there. Users who do not accept cookies from the domain “eppley.org” cannot access most areas of our sites.

We reserve the right to place an eppley.org cookie on your computer with a unique anonymous number to measure the number of unique visitors that have viewed a particular web page.

1.2.2 IP Addresses And Logging

The Eppley Institute logs IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, or the location of your computer on the Internet, for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. We use the IP address log in an aggregate fashion to track access to our site. Data in log files is only used in aggregate to analyze usage of our website.

 

2. How We Use The Information

We may use the information you provide about yourself for a number of purposes.

2.1 Statistical Analysis

The Eppley Institute may perform statistical, demographic, and marketing analyses of course subscribers and their purchasing patterns for product development purposes.

2.2 Our Products And Services

From time to time, we may provide course subscribers and newsletter subscribers with information and offers about other products and services offered by the Eppley Institute. This information will only be shared internally. If you do not wish to receive such information and offers, you may opt out by:

  1. Indicating your choice at the time of registering.
  2. Unsubscribing from our newsletter.

2.3 Communication

We sometimes use this information to communicate with you, such as to notify you when we make changes to our subscriber agreements, to fulfill a request by you for an online newsletter, or to contact you about your account with us. 3. Information Sharing And Disclosure

We may disclose personally identifiable information in response to legal process, for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena. We also may disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency’s request, or where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of our terms of use, to verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing our sites and applicable laws or as otherwise required or permitted by law or consistent with legal requirements.

3.1 Eppley Institute

If you have registered to the Eppley Institute training site, Eppley Institute will not sell, rent, swap, or authorize any third party to use your e-mail address or any information that personally identifies you without your permission. We do, however, share information about our audience in aggregate form.

3.2 Service Providers

We contract with other companies to provide services on our behalf, including credit card and billing processing, and shipping. We provide these companies only with the information they need to perform their services. These service providers are restricted from using this data in any way other than to provide services for Eppley Institute, and they may not share or resell this data.

We reserve the right to disclose your opt-out information to third parties so they can suppress your name from future solicitations, in accordance with applicable laws.

 

4. Our E-Mail Policy

We will not share, sell, rent, swap, or authorize any third party to use your e-mail address without your permission. If you feel you have received an e-mail from us in error, please contact us ateppley@indiana.edu.

4.1 Account And Service-Related E-Mail

The Eppley Institute reserves the right to send you e-mail relating to your account status. This includes order confirmations, notifications relating to renewals or expirations, notifications of credit-card problems, other transactional e-mails, and notifications about major changes to our website and/or to our Privacy Policy.

4.2 E-Mail Newsletters

If you no longer wish to receive our online newsletter, follow the “unsubscribe” instructions located near the bottom of each newsletter.

4.3 Promotional E-Mail

The Eppley Institute may periodically e-mail you messages about products and services that we think may be of interest to you. You can choose not to receive messages in the future by following the “unsubscribe” instructions located at the end of each e-mail.

4.4 Survey E-Mail

We may send you an e-mail inviting you to participate in user surveys, asking for feedback on the Eppley Institute training site, existing or prospective products and services, as well as information to better understand our users. User surveys greatly help us to improve our products and services, and any information we obtain in such surveys will not be shared with third parties, except in aggregate form.

4.5 HTML E-Mail

When you sign up to receive e-mail from us, you can select either plain text or HTML (with images) format. If you select the HTML format, we may place a one-pixel gif to determine whether or not readers viewed the e-mail. This process does not leave any information on your computer, nor does it collect information from your computer. The Eppley Institute may share this data with others in aggregate only.

4.6 E-Mail From You

If you send us e-mails, you should be aware that information disclosed in e-mails may not be secure or encrypted and thus may be available to others. We suggest that you exercise caution when deciding to disclose any personal or confidential information in e-mails. We will use your e-mail address to respond directly to your questions or comments.

 

5. Our Commitment To Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put into place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect the information we collect online.

 

6. How You Can Access Or Correct Information

Access to personally identifiable information that we collect may be accessible from the point of collection. For example, if you created a password-protected account within our site, you can access that account to review the information you provided.

7. Special Note For Parents

The Eppley Institute does not post any material on its website that is objectionable or adult in nature. However, we recommend parents be aware of and monitor their children’s Internet use.

This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time. Any such changes will be posted on this page. If we make a significant or material change in the way we use your personal information, the change will be posted on this page thirty (30) days prior to taking effect and registered users will be notified via e-mail.
