The Need

Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation serves the Carmel/Clay community by providing quality recreation programs and acquiring, preserving, and maintaining open lands and parks. In 2007 this organization needed to hire a Human Resources Administrator and a Marketing Coordinator. In order to identify and hire the best individuals for these positions, Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation called on the Eppley Institute to develop an assessment center process tailored to their specific needs.

The Solution

The Eppley Institute reviewed the position announcements and job descriptions and met with key decision makers in the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation Department. A specific set of measurable attributes and competencies was developed, and assessment center activities were created to measure these attributes and competencies for each position.

The Result

The draft was vetted with the department decision makers, refined, and finalized a week before the scheduled assessment center, giving the department time to coordinate and schedule the activities. Additionally, Eppley Institute team members travelled to Carmel for the assessment center process to participate on the assessment team. The process proved successful, as demonstrated by Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation’s high level of satisfaction with the both new hires.
