NPS Learning Management System
The National Park Service (NPS) offers training and education programs to over 20,000 employees, across more than 400 sites throughout the United States, and across 18 career fields through classroom education, e-learning, and satellite distance-learning courses. The NPS partnered with the Eppley Institute to develop a strategy and implement a Servicewide learning management system (LMS).
Eppley analyzed the training records management needs of the NPS, guided the vendor selection process, and shepherded the program through implementation. The Institute:
- Carried out a business needs analysis, and clarified and documented the functional requirements for the learning management system, which included initial industry survey and selection of possible Learning Management Systems
- Played a leadership role on the LMS project team throughout the system’s implementation process, which included establishing NPS business processes and mapping system functions, and
- Facilitated the pilot of the new Learning Management System, thereby perpetuating the leadership role of the LMS-based services to the employees of the National Park Service.
Through its’ partnership with Eppley, the National Park Service has been able to lead the Department of the Interior in the implementation and full use of a bureau-wide Learning Management System. The NPS is in its second year of Servicewide use of the system, which continues to develop and expand.
