The Need

In July 2006, the National Park Service (NPS) had a mandate to transition to a new Learning Management system: DOI LEARN. The transition was to be completed by October 1, 2006. There was a need to educate users at every level: student, supervisor, and instructor. The training needs at each of the three levels differed, with the instructors having the most intense need for training on the new system.

The Solution

In a very short timeframe of only three weeks, the Eppley Institute and the NPS DOI LEARN team collaborated to create two new training manuals, a two-day classroom course for instructors, a Supervisor’s Quick Reference, and a Desk Reference for all employees of the NPS.

The Result

All deliverables were completed in record time and were high quality documents. Suggestions gathered during training, along with usability testing, made the manual an even better resource. The training sessions themselves went very smoothly and participants gave them high marks on session evaluations. The Quick Guide and Desk Reference are still used by NPS employees who are new to the DOI LEARN system.
