Steve Wolter has over 35 years of service as a leader, manager, executive, and mentor in the parks, recreation, public lands, and tourism fields. His experience includes executive experience at agencies across three states and work at the highest levels of parks agencies nationally, as well as local and state non-profit and for-profit organizations. As the author of numerous innovative master and strategic plans, Steve has helped countless parks and recreation agencies build their systems through the projects completed by the Eppley Institute.
Working on over 400 projects and serving more than 150 clients since 2000, Steve leads the Institute with a micro-macro approach that allows him to engage in details as needed while focusing on advancing parks and recreation agency capabilities and the profession as a whole. His status as a leader in developing capability frameworks for the parks and recreation field, including international certification programs, provides Eppley’s stakeholders with a unique resource, resulting in improved services, facilities, and programs. Possessing a varied and rich background in facilities management, city administration, urban and regional planning, recreation, sports, tourism, and project management, Steve is uniquely qualified to assist organizations in developing and meeting their strategic aspirations.
With degrees from the University of Minnesota and Indiana University, Steve is an in-demand speaker at national and international conferences with well over 1,400 speaking engagements across the globe. His expertise in leadership for parks, recreation, and public lands agencies is widely valued by Eppley Institute partners and stakeholders.
