Research Associate & Content Developer
Sharon joined the Eppley Institute in 2018 with field experience in environmental education, summer camp programming, and aquatics. She has contributed to the development of several courses, including the Human Health and Natural Environment and Supervisor Management Certificates, as well as providing research support for ongoing projects.
Sharon has a master’s in Recreation Administration from East Carolina University, and is an alumna of the IU School of Public Health, where she received her PhD in Leisure Behavior from the department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies. Her research focuses on how we learn to be resilient, from the best practices in youth development to the benefits of outdoor spaces for ongoing health. She is currently using digital health sensors (heart rate variability) to capture changes in physiological resilience that health users may experience while hiking on local trails.
