NPS Planning, Environment, & Public Comment Technical Assistance

The Need

The National Park Service (NPS) needed to extend training for its Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) system to several groups of employees and contractors who did not have access to the NPS Intranet.

The Solution

The Eppley Institute created a learning management internet site where NPS seasonal employees, volunteers, contractors and cooperators can register for, complete, and track their progress on the PEPC suite of e-courses. In addition, all five PEPC e-courses were revised and updated, brought into compliance, and made available for Servicewide employee access on DOI LEARN.

The Result

The availability of these e-courses to NPS employees such as contractors and volunteers allows the NPS to manage its environmental and public comment compliance requirements more efficiently, ultimately resulting in park improvement projects being completed faster, which translates to a better park experience for both employees and park visitors.
